Ohio State to Equip Every Student for an AI-Powered Future

Beginning this fall, Ohio State University is incorporating artificial intelligence as a core part of every student’s education. The initiative, dubbed AI Fluency, aims to ensure students are fluent in both their chosen major and the practical application of AI within that field. Beginning with the incoming freshman class, OSU anticipates every graduate from 2029 onward will be AI fluent in their field.

OSU’s proactive integration of AI directly addresses the growing trend of students leveraging tools like ChatGPT. Recognizing this shift, some professors had already begun incorporating AI into their curricula, garnering a positive student response and an increase in innovative ideas.

Students will not be permitted to submit AI content as their own original work but, rather, will leverage AI as an educational tool for specific lessons to bolster their own creativity. To gain proficiency, students will be required to take a newly-developed AI skills seminar and will have the option to participate in various AI workshops built into existing programs.

While all 14 public universities in Ohio have embraced AI to some extent, OSU is the first to formally embed AI fluency across every major. OSU’s president Ted Carter underscores that AI is fundamentally reshaping our lives touching every industry, so the initiative prepares OSU graduates for the future.

Apple Leverages OpenAI to Supercharge AI Features

During its developer’s conference, Apple rolled out several new AI-powered features that expand its collaboration with ChatGPT maker OpenAI. The technology that was first integrated last year will power many of the new capabilities coming this fall. These new functionalities aim to help Apple’s iOS catch up to features already offered by Google on Android devices. Key features will include:

Live Translation: Messages, Phone, and FaceTime apps will offer live translation to simplify communication across language barriers.

On-Screen Content: Visual Intelligence will analyze images and text on an iPhone’s screen and users will be able to ask ChatGPT for more information about what they’re viewing.

Workout Buddy: An Ai-generated voice exclusive to Apple Watch will act as a personal coach to track workout progress and motivate users to meet fitness goals.

Genmoji & Image Creation: Users will be able to combine two emoji for more creative expressions and Image Playground will allow users to tap into ChatGPT to transform images into various art styles.

Wallet Updates: The app will be able to identify and summarize order tracking details to centralize delivery information.

AI Models for Developers: Users will be able to leverage Apple Intelligence to integrate AI-powered capabilities like natural language search and intelligent actions like Writing Tools and Image Playground into their apps.

San Francisco Turns to AI to Cut Red Tape

San Francisco’s City Attorney, David Chiu, has partnered with Stanford’s leading AI experts to identify and remove redundant or obsolete provisions in the City’s municipal code. Now nearly the same length as the entire US Federal Rulebook, the code’s bulk makes it impossible for human teams to routinely review provisions. Chiu envisions this as a pioneering effort that other government sectors will emulate.

Stanford’s Regulation, Evaluation, and Governance Lab (RegLab) developed an AI program to meticulously analyze the legal code and identify every instance where a city department is mandated to produce a report. Chiu’s team then engaged with these departments to determine which reports could be streamlined, consolidated, or eliminated entirely.

Chiu is now championing city legislation to change over a third of the nearly 500 reporting requirements and abolish 140 of them altogether. He asserted this isn’t just a San Francisco problem but a “policy sludge” that bogs down many government offices. His goal is to free up staff time spent on generating reports so that the City’s team can shift their focus to critical issues and tangible results.

These rapid developments across industries demonstrate both the urgency and opportunity of this moment. The good news? Meaningful AI implementation doesn't require enterprise-scale resources or massive infrastructure investments.

The most successful AI transformations aren't about chasing every new capability; they're about identifying where technology can solve real business problems and empower your existing teams. Whether you're building infrastructure, creating new user experiences, or seeking competitive advantages, the key is approaching AI with purpose and practicality.

At SoftSnow, we understand that successful AI adoption isn't just about acquiring technology: it's about thoughtful integration that enhances human potential rather than replacing it, allowing teams to work smarter and achieve more while staying true to core business objectives.
